Nucleate, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering tomorrow’s biotech leaders by educating today’s academic trainees, announced today that it has received support from Schmidt Futures to create Entrepreneurial Scientist Playbooks, the first of Nucleate’s Research Initiatives.
Nucleate’s Research Initiative is a global effort that aims to provide context and understanding to the complex landscape of biotech education. In line with Schmidt Futures’ mission to bet early on exceptional people working to solve hard problems in science and society, the Research Initiative will map biotech ecosystems, source innovative new technologies, and provide open-access resources to the community. Nucleate’s Entrepreneurial Scientist Playbooks will address key knowledge gaps experienced by PhD students and postdoctoral fellows when transitioning from an academic lab project to a viable company. Like all Nucleate initiatives, these playbooks will be free and publicly available.
Tom Kalil, Chief Innovation Officer of Schmidt Futures, said, “Nucleate is playing a critical role in empowering academic trainees to launch the next wave of biotech startups. These playbooks will help early-career scientists develop the next life-saving therapy, vaccine, or diagnostic, or bio-based climate solution.”
Nucleate is currently recruiting academic trainees as compensated “Nucleate Research Fellows” to develop these Entrepreneurial Scientist Playbooks. The organization is also seeking industry collaborators to provide expert guidance and mentorship.
